At The Sanctuary Garden, we are committed to fostering a fair, inclusive, and supportive workplace in line with the Scottish Government’s Fair Work First principles. As a small organisation dedicated to building community through sustainable gardening and local engagement, we strive to ensure our employment practices reflect our values of respect, opportunity, and wellbeing.

Our Commitments:

Real Living Wage: We will pay all our staff, including apprentices aged 16 and over, at least the Real Living Wage, ensuring a fair income that supports a decent standard of living.

Effective Workers’ Voice: We value the input of our team and provide open channels for feedback, including regular one-on-one meetings and anonymous surveys, to ensure every voice is heard and shapes our work environment.

Secure Employment: We avoid inappropriate use of zero-hours contracts, offering stable and predictable hours wherever possible to provide security for our staff.

Workforce Development: We invest in our team’s growth by providing access to training opportunities, such as horticultural workshops and leadership skills sessions, tailored to support career progression.

No Fire and Rehire: We commit to never using “fire and rehire” practices, ensuring fair treatment through open consultation in any business changes.

Diversity and Inclusion: We actively promote an inclusive workplace, welcoming individuals from all backgrounds and taking steps to address pay and opportunity gaps through transparent recruitment and equal pay reviews.

As a small organisation, we implement these practices proportionately, ensuring they are meaningful yet manageable. By embedding Fair Work First principles, we aim to create a positive, fulfilling workplace that benefits our team, our community, and the environment we serve.
